Starting Nursery

FOUNDATION STAGE 1 (NURSERY)

Our nursery is a happy and exciting place for children to get their first taste of school life. We have one nursery class with 26 daily places which is open every morning between 8.50am and 11.50am. This is staffed by a teacher and 2 nursery nurses. Children who come to our school nursery settle really quickly when they start "big school" because they know the staff and the environment well already.

Children are admitted into the nursery in the Autumn Term following their third birthday. We take 26 children each day and parents can opt to choose days, although we believe that we can make the biggest difference to a child's learning and progress if they are with us every day. Children with special needs can be accommodated and there are many advantages in them attending our nursery before they start school. For further information, please see our SEND local offer (see Official Information/SEN Information or click on the tab on the left).

If places are full, names may be placed on our waiting list. In the event of over-subscription, places are allocated according to the Local Education Authority’s admission procedures. For further details, please refer to our Admissions Policy (available on our school website under the Statutory Information tab/Policies).

Enquires are always welcome at the school office on 01430 873159.

Nursery starters this September

If your child is due to start nursery in September, make sure you have contacted the school direct to put their name down for a place. This is important because places are allocated in the Spring Term before their September start, and they may miss out.

We want you and your child to feel as happy and as comfortable as possible in their new surroundings. Above all, we want you both to TRUST us. With this in mind, we have the following arrangements in place to help:

Home Visit

Your child’s key worker will visit you and your child at home in September prior to starting nursery. This helps everyone to get to know each other in your child’s home setting. Use it to ask us questions and to talk about your child. Your child’s key worker will be able to get to know your child- likes and dislikes and what they can do already etc.

Visiting the Nursery

You are welcome to visit our nursery class with your child during the Summer Term. You can accompany your child for an informal hour to experience some nursery activities together and to meet key staff. Dates for this will be sent out to you with your welcome letter.

Parents’ Meeting

We hold an evening meeting for parents in the Summer Term before your child starts in the Nursery. This provides you with the opportunity to order uniform, meet the staff, ask questions and to find out about us. You will be able to look around the school. The date for this will be included in your welcome letter.

If you have any questions about these arrangements, please ask at the school office on 01430 873159.
